He rode into the elven haven and smiled. The stories did it no just Imladris was a beautiful valley. Turning his horse to the left as he had been directed to get to the stables. He was nearly there when two tiny forms darted in front of the horse, shaking his head he dismounted and allowed her to investigate a patch off grass as he went to find the little ones.

“Hello?” He called coming upon the pair as they hid behind a bush both shushed him putting fingers to their lips as two sets of tiny hands pulled him down not realizing he could never fit in their hiding place.

“Elladan, Elrohir come out! Its time for your music lesson!” Lindir exclaimed wishing Erestor was back already. Without the elf the twins had been running wild with much too indulgent parents. Not that he could blame his lord and lady usually the twins were perfection.

He noticed the top of a blond head and approached the shrub. And sure enough the twins were there along with a very confused looking blond elf. Turning back the lone horse made sense now and he smiled as the blond stood.

“Are you two skipping out of your studies?” Glorfindel asked noting for the first time they were twins. Noticing one seemed to look slightly more guilty than the other he focused on him. “Now this poor elf…er…”

“Lindir,” Lindir supplied and Glorfindel continued.

“Yes Lindir all he wants to do is expand your learning in..”

“Music and you don’t want to? I could teach you some very funny songs if you learned to play your instruments.”

“We’ll go,” Elrohir said quietly tugging on a reluctant Elladan.

“Who are you?” The elder twin asked.

“Well My name is uh…its Glorfindel,” he said with a slight blush.

“Really! Wow! You killed a balrog!”

“Well you see that’s the…”

“Was it really big?”

“E’stor said it breathed fire!”

“What I’m trying to say is…”

“Ada! Ada!” Elladan exclaims running to an elf dressed in an old tunic and torn leggings with a sword hanging at his side.

“Lindir do you have any idea why there is a mare eating away at the gardens?”

“Oh! Its my fault, so sorry! I just got distracted when the little ones ran across my path.”

“Ada guess what?”

“What is it Elladan?” Elrond asked lifting his son into his arms.

“We met Glorfindel!”

“Son you can’t possibly meet…” Elrond stopped as Elrohir pulled on his tunic. “Yes?”

“He’s right there! And he killed a Balrog and it was all fiery…”

“Um about that…”

“Come I believe my sons have lessons and we should discuss this in private.”

Glorfindel nodded wondering who this elf was but followed him none the less. Getting more and more confused as elves bowed to him right and left. Why on Arda would they bow to him? Could word have spread that quickly? Sighing he simply decided to keep following the other elf until things were made clear.

“This is the hall of fire, I am sure you are in need of refreshment, someone will be in shortly while I refresh myself then we can talk.”

“Alright thank you. But the thing is…”

“When I return,” Elrond said with a dismissive wave of his hand.

Glorfindel sighed and sat down but true to the elf’s word a servant appeared almost instantly and offered him food and drink which he happily took. He was just finishing up when a regal elf came down the stairs in burgundy robes, and his hair knotted and adorned in a mithril circlet. It actually took him a moment to realize this was the same elf from before.

Standing he bowed, feeling remiss for not showing him the proper respect earlier. But then he had simply seen a dusty elf with a sword.

“Surprised? Most give me that look for my other clothes. But there are times when I like to spar. I am Elrond by the way and welcome to Imladris. Glorfindel of Gondolin.”

“I…Its just that I’m not…”

“Let’s go to my study where we can discuss why you’re here.”

“Yes that would be good,” Glorfindel said wondering if he would ever get in two words edgewise.

Elrond pointed to a chair and Glorfindel looked at the clutter that was the desk. “My advisor is away,” Elrond said as if that was an explanation. “I think you two knew each other actually, Erestor?”

“No I can’t say that I did. But I wanted to discuss moving here. I would like to join your guard maybe the border patrol. I saw them when I was coming in…”

“Of course! I should make you captain of the guard…”

“No! You can’t do that!”

“I am Lord of Imladris I can do as I please.”

“I just mean, I don’t want any special treatment, I want to be treated like any other elf that wanted to join.”

“Then you will have to go through months of training.”

“Fine, I didn’t do much sparring in the havens, that would be better.”

“Can I at least give you rooms in the house?”

“I don’t…”

“It wasn’t a request. Its honorable you do not want to be treated differently, but unless you want to set up residence in a tree you will take the room.”

“Oh,” Glorfindel said with a blush.

“Yes the barracks are quite full, we’re building more housing now,” Elrond said smiling. “Lindir,” Elrond said to an elf who had just entered. “Please escort Glorfindel to his new quarters.”

“Yes my lord, well follow me.” Glorfindel nodded and stood. Outside he was assailed by the little ones.

“I got your bags from the horse. I also got her a stall in the stable.,” Lindir said leading Glorfindel to a room where his belongings were placed in a chair as the twins immediately went to bouncing on the bed.

“Elladan! Elrohir! Get off the bed.”

“We’re sorry Lindir,” The twins said in unison climbing off the bed.

“Now be good children and come, I thought you wanted to play the song you learned for your mother.”

“Yeah!” As the twins started tugging the elder elf out he grinned and turned to Glorfindel.

“Feel free to clean up and change. A servant will come to bring you to supper if you need anything before that, pull this and someone will be right with you.”

“Thank you,” Glorfindel said and shut his door. All in all it hadn’t been so bad. He just had to have a sit down with Elrond and explain and he was sure it would all be fine. And why was it that everyone assumed he had been reborn. Glorfindel sighed, life would have been so much easier if he was a brunette,. Though he always wondered why naming one elf after another was so strange. Humans did it all the time and that had been where his father had gotten the idea.

Plus there were other elves who shared a name. No one thought that Legolas Greenleaf was the same elf from Gondolin who had led the elves with his keen eyes but everyone assumed he had slayed a balrog. He supposed it was partially the fault of the fact that he looked the part. He had the golden braids and blue eyes. But in his mind the real Glorfindel would most likely be taller and a better warrior.

He would tell Elrond at dinner, right now the bath was calling his name. After all that time in the wild a bath and a rest was just what he needed.
