Summary: A web is a strange thing with tangled lines all leading to the same point. Your path can be straight, you can go in circles for what seems an eternity or you can end up trapped, stuck forever in the grand design. This web goes beyond life, death, mortal, immortal, elven and half-elven to find one connection in the middle of it all and that connection is Erestor.
Disclaimer: I *sniff* do not any of the characters in this story. They are owned by Tolkien/Jackson.

“Legolas?” Elrohir whispered from where he was on the other side of Erestor his brother stirring behind him.
“Yes?” He whispered back.
“You feel better now?”
“Yes, I thought E’stor would be so mad.”
“E’stor’s nice he doesn’t yell at little elfs.”
“What about big ones?”
“E’stor makes big elfs cry. If they make him mad he’ll yell at them and if he gets really mad he’ll throw a book.”
“Really? Ada yells at big elfs too but then he makes me leave.”
“E’stor too but you can still hear him. He gives us cookies not to tell Ada when he throws books,” Elrohir said with a giggle.
“You think E’stor and Fin will have little elfs?” Elladan asked, “Like Nana and Ada.”
“No, they need a Nana,” Legolas said matter of factly. “The Nana holds the little elf and her stomach gets really big I saw.”
“How does it get in there?”
“I don’t know maybe the Ada puts it there. That’s why you need two.” Thranduil grinned from his seat at the window glad the children had yet to notice him. There some questions he was not about to answer for three curious elflings. He watched as the twins listened to every word of Legolas’ and realized they had yet to see a pregnant elf.
“Dan,” Elrohir whispered as he lay his hands lightly on Erestor’s sleeping form. “He’s cold.” He said as the sleeping elf let out a slight shiver.
“Let’s get him some blankets,” the trio carefully scrambled off the bed and into the corridor returning a few moments later with the blanket from the twins bed balanced carefully between the three of them and they worked together to pull it over Erestor who simply smiled in his sleep.
“That was very nice of you all, but I think you should let Erestor sleep now,” Thranduil said surprising the children who nodded and climbed off the bed again.
“Lets go see Nana, she was showing us how to make the flowers grow big last time and we found a worm and she screamed,” Elladan said laughing.
“I’ll take you,” Thranduil said hoping Erestor would be all right for a few moments. Glad when she was in her sitting room gathering her gardening tools.
“Boys, Legolas, My Lord.”
“My lady, I leave them in your capable hands.”
Entering the room he saw Erestor tossing the blankets aside and attempting to stand. Thranduil rushed to his side.
“And where do you think your going?” Thranduil asked not blinking at Erestor’s nudity.
“Bathroom,” Erestor mumbled.
“Here let me help you.”
“I’m going to the bathroom,” Erestor muttered again blushing.
“Don’t tell me you’re shy. I’ve seen do you a lot with that thing.”
“But its using the bathroom.”
“Erestor you are standing here stark naked in your lovers room with your former lover and all you are worried about it me watching you relieve yourself?”
“Yes.” Thranduil laughed, leave it to Erestor to be stubborn about such a thing. “Fine I will turn my head. But I will not have to explain to your admires as numerous as they are why I let you fall in the bath.”
“Numerous admirers?” Erestor asked as he was led to the bath. Thranduil turned his head as Erestor went about his business.
“There was an uproar to share your bed I recall. Your poor lover was regaled to a chair.”
Erestor smiled. “The twins have on occasion snuck into here; and sandwiched themselves between me and Fin.”
Thranduil smiled and helped Erestor back to his bed. Walking over to the armoire he pulled out a shapeless black thing then raised his eyebrow at it. “What is this thing?”
“That unfortunately was a formal robe, until I gave the tailor my preferred style.”
“Well its good for night clothes I suppose. You are ill which means you must wear clothes to bed. And don’t give me that face.” Erestor sighed and took the robe pulling it over his head and then pulling the sheets around him. “Move over,” Thranduil said climbing into the bed besides his friend.
“You never write about the interesting things.”
“What?” Erestor asked turning to face his friend.
“How did you finally bed the balrog slayer.”
“What are you talking about? I told you we started a relationship.”
“That was a secret.” Now even the children know. Though that alone was quite the leap, what was that fond term you had for Glorfindel? Oh yes, ‘loathsome blond turd’ quite affectionate I suppose.”
“We got off on the wrong foot.”
“And the last alliance was a little scuffle,” Thranduil said propping himself up on his elbow. “Now how long has this been public knowledge? Also how did you manage to share quarters and have no one know?”
“We would simply return to our quarters in the morning.”
“So what finally broke the silence?” Thranduil asked.
“Lindir had expressed an interest in Melpomean and was being urged on by Glorfindel but he feared Mel was already in a relationship with me.”
“Why would he think that?”
“Well we work closely together and Lindir found us in some compromising positions.”
“Such as?” Thranduil asked raising an eyebrow and was swatted at by Erestor.
“Nothing like that you oaf,” Erestor frowned remembering one such position. “Well um…there was the one time I was sprawled out on a desk in the library and Melpomean was hovering over me inches from my face.”
“Yet it was nothing like that? And what did Glorfindel have to say.”
“He carried me to the healers. I had cracked two ribs.”
“I fell off a ladder onto a table from the library’s third level. Then there was the time we were too busy talking to notice of some toy or another and we both when rolling down a hill and came to a halt in front of Lindir who was practicing with Mel pinning me. We both simply laughed it off and made our way back to the house arm in arm.”
“Well I supposed I can see how someone can confuse that.”
“Oh and there was the household meeting, where Glorfindel and I had just…anyway I was flushed and there was a passion mark not fully covered by my clothes and Mel and just discovered us so he was flushing as well. Glorfindel was simply being his usual self smirking I may have snapped at him and spent most of the meeting whispering to Mel.”
“So you and Glorfindel went public so Lindir would not believe he had no chance with his love?”
“That would mean the brute actually discussed with me instead of throwing me against a wall and kissing me breathless in the very full and very silent dining hall.”
“Oh dear. Did someone feed him sweets afterwards?”
“Excuse me?” Erestor asked eyes narrowed dangerously. Thranduil held up his hands in surrender.
“See! Anyone subjected to your temper deserves sweets and to be petted until they are recovered.”
Erestor snorted. “I am a very nice elf.”
“Unless, annoyed, interrupted, insulted, ill, or otherwise incapacitated. So what did you do to the poor helpless balrog slayer?”
“Nothing, he didn’t let me so much as breath before hissing it was Melpomean’s heart at stake I did the only thing I could do.”
“I bid a passing servant to bring dinner to Glorfindel’s rooms. Elrond was too stunned to speak and Celebrian bid us have fun.”
“She did and produced embroidered pillows for us both the next morning.”
“I fear what you did next.”
“The only thing I could do. I put both on Glorfindel’s chair.” Thranduil laughed shaking his head at the smiling elf.
“Oh I’ve missed you,” Thranduil said once he had calmed. “Is there anyway I could steal you from Elrond?”
“Even if you could there’s still Fin.”
“Oh he can come too he’ll blend right in.”
Erestor smiled, “How long will you stay?”
“Summer approaches, we will depart before it passes. From what I have heard from you, winters here are not made for traveling.”
Erestor laughed, “You are a wise elf my fair king.”
“Do you feel better?”
“Somewhat, but I am still tired. And I feel, I don’t know how to describe it so it makes sense. Empty maybe? But not hungry,” Erestor sighed, “I’m making no sense.” Erestor noticed the strange look on Thranduil’s face and frowned trying to read his friend. “What?”
“Nothing, nothing. So you like Legolas?”
“Of course, he’s sweet, caring, adorable, nothing like his father. I must commend the queen.”
“Oh you are so amusing,” Thranduil said with a roll of his eyes.
“I try, aren’t you supposed to be in a treaty meeting?”
“Well I’ve deviously plotted to gain the upper hand by making nice with Elrond’s Chief Advisor.”
“Oh I see, I should warn you he is not easily swayed.”
“But he hasn’t been up against my charms,” Thranduil said batting his lashes.
“But Fin’s cuter.”
Thranduil put a hand to his chest and gasped. “Oh! You wound me so.” Erestor laughed playfully shoving Thranduil as Glorfindel entered with a dinner tray.
“Dinner? Already? I feel as if you all are trying to fatten me up.”
“I will collect Legolas, give you two lovers some peace,” Thranduil said with a smile kissing Erestor lightly on the lips walking out with a nod to Glorfindel.
“Can we eat on the balcony? I want to see the stars.”
“Are you sure you are strong enough?”
“The worst that could happen is that I fall asleep then I order you to save me from drowning in my soup.”
Glorfindel snorted shaking his head at Erestor as he placed the tray down on the table on the balcony. Moving to the bed he wrapped his arm around Erestor and helped him to shuffle to the table. Erestor happily wrapped his arms around Glorfindel relishing the short walk. As Glorfindel helped him into the chair he pulled the blond down to him and kissed him, stroking his cheek as he did so.
“I love you,” Erestor said quietly.
“I love you too,” Glorfindel said with another kiss before he began to ladle stew into both their bowls. Then pouring wine for them both though Erestor’s portion was much smaller than his own. Erestor arched his brow but didn’t comment as he ate his rabbit stew.
Erestor was nearly done with his stew before he noticed that Glorfindel had barely touched his food and was studying him. “Fin? Why are you still troubled?”
“There is something I must tell you. It is not good news.”
“What?” Erestor asked pushing the bowl aside his appetite gone as his stomach started to churn. Glorfindel swallowed and emptied his half filled glass and opened his mouth but no sound escaped.
“Fin? Fin? You’re frightening me.”
“When you were bitten by the spider it caused a chain reaction. Your body was under too much strain and it…it…you were…you lost…you had…this is so…”
“Fin just say it; you will drive yourself mad this way. I need no pretty words. You were never good at it anyway,” Erestor said knowing how Glorfindel would react and the warrior did not disappoint.
“Damn it Erestor you miscarried,” Glorfindel snapped.
“See that wasn’t so hard now…excuse me? What?” Erestor asked finally hearing the words.
“You were with child.”
“Glorfindel I may be smaller than most and softer than you are used too but I am still male.”
“Erestor I am not calling you female.”
“Then you are calling me a kinslayer.”
“Erestor all I know is that I saw our son no larger than may hand dead before he had a chance to live,” Glorfindel mumbled staring at his hands. The silence that followed seemed deafening and finally he looked up at Erestor who was shaking his head in silent denial.
“No,” Erestor whispered pushing his chair back and fleeing the balcony and room. Glorfindel sat frozen for a moment Erestor’s reaction confusing him. Standing he knew he must follow his love. He strode down the hall and past the black clad elf hidden in the shadows.
Erestor quickly made his way to Thranduil’s room knocking on the door blindly, Legolas opened the door and grinned.
“E’stor! We were taking a bath and Ada’s all wet,” he said smiling in Thranduil’s oversized shirt flopping around his tiny body. Erestor simply stared at Legolas for a moment before sinking to his knees and hugging the child close as his first tears fell. Legolas, understanding Erestor’s distress if not the cause wrapped his arms around Erestor just as tightly as Thranduil emerged rubbing his hair dry in a pair of brown sleep pants.
“Erestor?” Thranduil asked kneeling behind his son.
“Its not fair,” Erestor whispered releasing Legolas for his father’s arms. Thranduil nodded rocking Erestor slightly as Legolas patted his back looking sadly at his father to make things better.
Thranduil led Erestor to the bed and laid him down and wrapped his arms about Erestor again, surprised when Legolas squeezed himself between the two and wrapped his arm around Erestor and used his free hand to wipe the tears away.
“What’s not fair E’stor?” Legolas asked as Erestor continued to repeat the phrase.
Shutting his eyes and swallowing, he responded, “I lost something really special and can’t get it back.”
“Maybe you can get another one.” Erestor shook his head.
“But its not the same.”
“Doesn’t have to be the same to be good,” Legolas whispered and at that Erestor’s eyes widened. Erestor glanced up at Thranduil who had shed his own tears silently, even as he felt immensely proud of his son.
“I think I should go talk to Fin.”
“Will he help you get a new one?”
“Yes, Goodnight sweet wonderful Legolas,” Erestor said placing a kiss on the child’s forehead before slipping out of the bed with a nod to Thranduil who could still see the sadness in his friend’s eyes as he slipped out of the room.
Erestor shuffled back into his lover’s room sad to see them empty. Glorfindel must still be searching for him. Walking out onto the balcony he looked down to see his lover and Lindir and called softly.
The warrior in Glorfindel snapped to attention and he turned to look up at Erestor shivering in the light spring breeze despite the large black robe that hung shapelessly around him. Erestor looked up at the stars wondering what this meant for him and if possibly he could have a family. He was lost in his thoughts, and taken by surprise when he was hugged from behind. Turning he buried his face in Glorfindel’s chest.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered shivering.
“You’re shaking,” Glorfindel muttered pulling him inside.
“I’m cold,” he replied as he was guided to the bed. Glorfindel removed his boots and tunic and climbed in besides Erestor. “Did they…is the… I mean …” Erestor tried shutting his eyes with a heavy sigh.
“His ceremony is tomorrow night at midnight.”
“A boy?” Erestor asked quietly.
“Yes, he had…he would have been beautiful.”
“Just like his ada.”
“If he looked anything like you,” Glorfindel replied softly near tears.
“Fin now that we know…do you think we could…maybe try again?” Glorfindel’s sudden rigidness worried Erestor but buried in his lover’s chest he couldn’t read his expression. “Fin? I don’t mean right away, its just something to you know think…”
“But don’t you…”
“Erestor you can’t…”
“You don’t mean that,” Erestor said beginning to tremble. If he could have children he wanted a home brimming with them.
“You would die Erestor,” Glorfindel started his eyes shut as his tears did begin to fall. “There is no way for you to carry a child for a year and have you both survive.”
“No!” Erestor sobbed. “Why? What’s the point?” Erestor wailed. “Why can I even…It’s not fair…” Erestor ended breaking down into gasping sobs as Glorfindel simply held him close his own tears falling for something he had thought he had long since resigned himself to.
Neither knew how long they stayed that way, exhaustion lulling Erestor into a sleep where he whimpered every so often as Glorfindel stroked his back. The blond was somewhat startled when the door opened seconds later.
“Fin? Estor?” Elladan called.
“Are you awake?” Elrohir Added.
“Yes little ones,” Erestor whispered hoarsely as he wiped as his eyes.
“We were cold, can we sleep here?”
“You don’t want to sleep with your nana and ada?” Glorfindel asked.
“The doors locked,” Elrohir whispered. Erestor glanced at Glorfindel who’s expression seemed to say that it was Erestor’s decision if the twins stayed. Erestor shifted out of his arms and patted the new space.
“Well come on, we don’t need you freezing your noses off.”
“Thank you!” The twins exclaimed with a giggle, as they scrambled onto the bed hugging both elves before settling between them.
“E’stor? Did you cry?” Elrohir asked as he settled beside the elf.
“A little don’t worry.”
“Don’t be sad,” he whispered patting the elf’s face. Erestor nodded and looked over at Glorfindel who was getting much the same treatment from Elladan.
“I think I want to keep them,” Erestor whispered as Glorfindel pulled his and the twins blanket over them. He gave Erestor a sad smile and wrapped Elladan up in hug as Erestor did the same to Elrohir and the foursome fell asleep that way.
