Anteros was the first to wake the feeling of eyes on him. He cracked one eye open and realized he wasn’t the first to wake. Persephone and Erin were staring at him. Erin with a mischievous glint in his eye. Looking at the god and at the Ares doll tucked under his arm he waved his hand.
He could feel the tingle of the child’s power on him centering near his head but he wasn’t sure what Erin had done.
“Erin,” Ares growled waking at the short burst of power. “Did you make snacks in bed again?”
“No unc,” Erin said crawling over Anteros’ knees to get a morning hug. Anteros sat up wondering what the boy had done when he turned to him and opened his arms. “Hug?”
“Unc?” Erin whispered approaching Ares. He had been in Ares’ room drawing and the war god had taken the time to view some petitions from his various temples and shrines. Smiling the war god sat back from the table and his stack of scrolls and patted his knee.
Erin climbed on nervously glancing at Ares’ vest and the God mentally cursed Eris. The bruise was fading but it was still there. Whatever Ace had done it was still working just slower or he wouldn’t have a fading yellow bruise right now but something that was deep purple and painful to the touch. Running his fingers through Erin’s hair which caused it to stick up in a variety of directions had the desired effect and Erin curled up against him.
As Erin went off to discover the wonders of chocolate, Ares had a grimmer task set before him. Appearing in the sealed cave he found his sister pacing and cursing, so wrapped up in herself she did not notice the entrance of her very enraged twin. Until a fist impacted with her face crushing her nose.
Temporally forgetting her new lesser status she attempted to punch her brother. The blow broke her hand. Screaming as blood poured from her nose and her hand began to swell. Blood pouring down her face she was not one to give in yet. She was one of the house of war and she had not earned her position lightly. Being Ares’ twin had meant nothing in her becoming his second.
And she was not going to let something like being stripped of her powers stop her from retaliating. Ares watched this slightly amused easily reading his sister. He knew how her mind worked and wondered how she simply ‘forgot’ even as a full god she was never a match for Ares.
Ares placed down his scroll and watched as Erin bounced around the room, thanking the stars he didn’t have wings. Cupid had moments this hyper as a child buzzing around the room as if he was ready to explode. Starring at the boy he waited until he bounced to his side.
“Are you done yet?” Erin asked excitedly.
“Yes, we can go now, to you know what you are going to do?”
“Play!” Erin exclaimed.
“Remember they are mortal,” Ares warned knowing some of his games with Ace and Persephone when she escaped Demeter weren’t exactly safe for those that needed to breathe, or could be crushed by his arms. There was also the fact that they would not react well to being turned green; Erin’s current color of choice.
Aries stared at his nephew; it was a full five seconds before he could even form a response. He looked at Strife’s blank expression and wondered what Eris had been thinking having a child for this long and not even teaching him the basics. This was not included in his list of necessary training.
“Athena!” The war god bellowed and it took a few moments before the goddess of war and wisdom appeared.
“He can’t read or write,” he said pointing at Strife who looked as if he wanted to melt into the pillar he was leaning against.
After the incident with Erin Hestia sent a quick message to Hades via Hermes to show up earlier to the dinner. She wanted to get some answers and was sure Ares and Apollo were just as anxious as well to find out what his other triggers were to help him deal with it.
As Hestia cooked to help calm herself she tried to understand how someone, even Discord, could so utterly destroy a child. If she went to the bathing chamber she was sure to find Ace splashing and giggling with his father. It was what Erin should be doing but instead he was being cradled by Ares, who worked so hard to keep from being consumed by his station.
Ares held Erin close as the boy woke. Holding him close, Erin started then looked at Ares and opened his arms to the god. Ares complied instantly rubbing Erin’s back.
The dinner had been a raging success and after desert and warm milk most of the children were piled in Hestia’s bed, in various states of sleep. Many a plush to be seen wrapped in the tiny arms.
Their parents and other gods were gathered in Hestia’s sitting room wanting to discuss what they had spied in the mirror and how to deal with it.
“I want to rip out that witch’s spleen and feel it to her,” Actually came from Cupid his eyes flashing darkly.
“Why not her spine?” Aphrodite asked and for the first time some wondered where Cupid really got his temper from.
